Automate the work you repeat every day

Copy-paste, export-import, watching a site for changes: hand that to scheduled jobs and browser automation, and deal only with the exceptions.

What you end up with

  • A scheduled pipeline that runs itself and tells you when it breaks
  • Web data landing in a sheet or database automatically
  • You save the daily 20 minutes, not one heroic project

The sequence

  1. 1. Define the trigger and the failure path first

The point is that nobody watches it, so failures must reach a human. Decide up front: when it runs, who gets told when it fails, and after how many consecutive failures it stops. Miss this and it breaks silently for weeks.

  2. 2. If the data lives on a page, solve extraction first

Static pages need only a scraping framework. Anything behind a login, requiring clicks or client-side rendering needs real browser control. Get correct data manually once before scheduling anything.

  3. 3. Let a model handle the parts whose shape changes

A redesign breaks hard-coded selectors. Letting a model extract the fields you care about from raw content often survives redesigns. It costs per call, so reserve it for the parts that actually change.

Only need one piece of this?

You don't have to build the whole chain. Every tool above is listed on its own, with a summary, pros and cons, and a starting point.
